| Why use a bug as a police car? |
|
While it may be rare to see a Beetle patrol car in the US, bugs have proudly worn the badge of police forces throughout the world since the 1940's. These cars have built a reputation for being faithful, nearly indestructable mechanized companions to men and women in law enforcement through the decades and continue to do so to this day. The car's low cost and very high reliability alone would make it a great candidate for a life of service. When you begin to factor in the bug's fuel efficiency, adaptability, low maintenance cost and surprising agility, you begin to wonder why there weren't more beetle police cars in this country. Even the bugs small size had its advantages over larger vehicles more common in this country. Besides, wouldn't it be nice to know that your patrol car can be used as a floatation device? |
